4 Tips for Stylizing Jewelry with Your Outfits

Posted by Colleen Menning on

Most people have beautiful jewelry pieces that are collecting dust in their jewelry box because they don’t know how to style them with outfits. Don’t let your most gorgeous items go to waste! After reading this article on how to stylize jewelry with outfits, you’ll be able to create your own fashionable looks that incorporate your favorite earrings, necklace, or bracelet (or all three!).

1) Dress like you mean it
Dressing like you mean it is not just a trend, but an art form. The way you dress will give your jewelry a different look depending on the outfit that you choose to wear it with. For example, if you are wearing a bold or flamboyant dress, then your jewelry should be more understated and simple. If you are wearing an all-black outfit, then your jewelry should be bolder and more noticeable. Try wearing oversized earrings with a smaller necklace. Wear several bracelets stacked together in various lengths with one long necklace on top. Mixing textures can also be really fun: Try mixing delicate pearls, which represent innocence and purity, and big rough gems (representing power) in one piece of jewelry.

2) Match your metals
Choosing the right metal in relation to your clothes can make or break a look. Here are some tips on how to match the two together:
-If you're wearing black, gold and silver will complement it well. -If you're wearing a lot of prints, go for warm metals like copper and bronze, which will stand out against the patterned fabric. -To balance an outfit that's mostly monochrome (all one color), try using bright jewelry that matches the one color in your outfit.
-Make sure not to overdo it though, since this will distract from the main focal point of your outfit instead of adding a complementary element.

3) Add subtle pops of color
1. Pick a color that's already in the outfit- One of the easiest ways to create a cohesion between your jewelry and your clothing is to pick colors that are already present in your outfit. 2. Add pops of color- The key to making this work is picking colors that blend well together and make sense with what you're wearing, like a light pink earrings and necklace if you're wearing a navy dress or bright green bracelets if you're wearing all black. 3. Coordinate shapes- If you want to add an element of style, match shapes such as triangle earrings with a triangular pendant necklace. 4. Mix metals- Coordinating metals can help give more dimension to your look; try gold bracelets paired with silver rings or pearl studs paired with gold hoops. To go the other way, swap out a delicate strand of pearls for some eye catching chandelier earrings. Matching gems or stones will also do wonders! You could even combine them both by having gemstone bangles on one wrist and diamond rings on the other!

4) Less is more
I'm a big believer in less is more, and I'll prove it to you by giving you some pointers on how to wear jewelry without overdoing it. Start off by choosing two pieces of jewelry to accessorize with your outfit. Choose one statement piece that will act as the focal point of your look, and then choose a few smaller pieces to compliment it. For example, if you're wearing a simple dress, a bold necklace or earrings would work well. If you have an embellished top, try pairing it with a delicate bracelet. Make sure that your larger accessories are worn close to the body, so they don't detract from what you're actually trying to show off. For instance, keep your statement necklace tucked under a cardigan or high-necked blouse. The same goes for big earrings--pair them with a bun hairstyle to avoid distracting attention away from your face! You can also play around with layering necklaces and bracelets. Take this opportunity to experiment and find out what works best for you!

Now that you've read a few tips on how to stylize your jewelry with your outfits, dust off your favorite Paparazzi jewelry pieces (or better yet...but some new pieces!) and create your own unique style!
